Lux Arcana Candle Co. scented soy candles are made with all-natural soy wax, a vegetable-based wax made from soybeans grown right here in the USA. When you consider that most commercial candles are made with toxic paraffin wax (a petroleum byproduct), our soy wax candles offer these benefits:
Cleaner Burning: 0 toxic chemicals released by burning, very little soot, far less likely to produce allergic reactions and respiratory problems.
Longer Lasting: Burning longer and at lower temperatures, soy wax candles may last twice as long as those made of paraffin.
Sustainable: Soybeans are a green, renewable resource and can be grown again and again. Using soy wax supports local farmers and our domestic agriculture.
Nothing Left Behind: Our candles are tested and crafted to burn more efficiently, meaning very little wax is left at the end of your candle's life. Additionally, because soy wax is a natural plant product, it is biodegradable and easily cleans up with soap and water.

While most candle wicks are made with cotton, they are often treated with chemicals or feature a metal core to alter their burning characteristics. We use exclusively 100% organic hemp wick in all of our candles. Non-GMO, no toxic chemicals, no acids, no pesticides, no PVC, no BPA, no formaldehyde, no dioxin, no heavy metals. Just organic hemp and beeswax.
What is Hemp?
Hemp is a particular strain of the Cannabis plant that is grown strictly for industrial purposes, like clothing, health foods, and construction material. The fibre is very much similar to jute, flax, and ramie and has been used around the world to make clothing and cordage for thousands of years. Unlike other varieties of Cannabis, hemp contains only very small amounts of Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), less than 0.3%, so it's not a controlled substance and you wont be getting high from burning our candles.
Better than Cotton?
When you weigh the environmental impact of both cotton and hemp, hemp comes out the winner. Hemp requires less water, fewer chemicals, grows faster, and produces more yield than cotton.
On average, hemp crops consume less than 30% the amount of water as cotton.
The roots of the hemp plant aerate the soil and consume minimal nutrients, it can be grown on the same plot of land continuously for 14 years without depleting the soil or reducing crop yield.
Hemp is naturally pest resistant and deters weeds, while cotton accounts for about 25% of the worlds pesticide usage.
On average, hemp is estimated to produce about 1500 lbs. of fibre per acre, while cotton is only capable of producing about 500 lbs. per acre.
Lux Arcana Candle Co. is committed to making candles that are as clean and safe as possible. Our candles are scented with expertly crafted fragrance oils that are 100% Phthalate-Free, non-toxic and body-safe for use in candles, lotions, soaps, perfumes, and other personal products.
What are Phthalates?
Phthalates, or phthalate esters, are chemicals with a variety of uses, particularly in the manufacturing of plastic and vinyl to make them more flexible. However, phthalates are also commonly found in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, cleaning products, and other household goods. Diethyl phthalates (DEP) are often used in the fragrance and cosmetic industry, primarily as a solvent to dissolve the raw material that goes into creating fragrances, but also claimed to improve the scent quality and performance in candles and other scented products.
Over the last several years, more research has been conducted on the effects of phthalates on human health. Studies have linked phthalates to causing developmental issues, obesity, and even asthma. Some types of phthalates have been labeled as “endocrine disruptors” that impact the natural hormones in our bodies, leading to side effects including lower fertility and higher risk of cancer.
If the health impacts of phthalates aren't enough, these chemicals also pose risks to our environment. Phthalates are man-made petroleum based chemicals, so purchasing products containing phthalates promotes the extraction and production of oil. If these toxic chemicals can break down and potentially cause severe health problems in humans, it’s safe to assume they could also harm the bodies of other animals and marine life that come into contact with it.
