Bone Rune Set
A beautiful set of Norse runes hand-carved from bovine bone. Each set includes the 24 characters of the Elder Futhark and one blank tile, neatly packed in a cotton muslin pouch.
Norse mythology specifically addresses the discovery of runes. The almighty god Odin, in his relentless pursuit of knowledge, sacrificed himself to the cosmos. He hung himself from the world tree Yggdrasil, pierced by his own spear, for nine days and nine nights. On the ninth night, he looked below him into the Well of Urd and the runes were revealed to him. Possession of the runes was considered to have made Odin a very powerful magician.
The word "rune" derives from Old Norse, meaning "magic signs/hidden lore". The ancient tales and etymology paint a powerful picture of the spiritual significance of written language.
Used for magic and divination, the runes allow one to access, interact with, and influence the world-shaping forces they symbolize. They always have been and forever will be more than just an alphabet.
